THE SHORT STORIES OF THE ASEAN MEDICAL DEANS’ SUMMIT (AMDS) 2025

Prof Yodi MahendradhataDistinguished Deans, Colleagues, and Esteemed Delegates of the ASEAN Medical Schools Network,

It is with great honor and sincere enthusiasm that I welcome you to Yogyakarta, Indonesia, for the 15th ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit (AMDS) 2025, proudly hosted by the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Since its inception in 2012, the ASEAN Medical Schools Network (AMSN) has served as a vital platform for collaboration among leading medical schools in the region, united by a common vision: to achieve excellence in medical education, advance healthcare outcomes, and foster solidarity through shared values and mutual support. This year, we gather under the theme: "Building Impactful Collaborations: Transforming Needs into Actions."

In an era defined by rapid technological evolution, global health challenges, and the growing interconnectivity of our societies, it is imperative that our collaboration moves beyond dialogue. We must work together to translate our shared needs into concrete, measurable actions that bring tangible benefits to our institutions, students, and communities. The AMSN, with its regional identity and shared challenges, is uniquely positioned to co-create impactful programs that address common priorities in medical education, educational technology, research, and student personal development.

Throughout AMDS 2025, we aim to strengthen existing partnerships and forge new ones—establishing frameworks for sustainable, collaborative programs that can be implemented within the coming year and reported annually at future summits. By doing so, we hope to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of health professional education in the ASEAN region and support the broader goals of the ASEAN Economic Community.

Let us embrace this opportunity to listen, share, and act—together.

We are delighted to welcome you to Universitas Gadjah Mada and to Yogyakarta, a city rich in culture, academic tradition, and innovation. May AMDS be a milestone in our collective journey toward a more integrated and impactful ASEAN medical education community.
